OLEDP in cooperation with NALED provided 1,500 aid packages for the most vulnerable households in Niš

Aid consisting of 1,500 food and hygiene packages, worth almost two million dinars, provided by the company Marbo Product through NALED’s donation platform, was delivered to the City of Niš. The packages are intended for Roma households and beneficiaries of the People’s Kitchen in that city, which the local self-government recognized as the most vulnerable.

Representatives of NALED and Marbo Product (PepsiCo, Inc.) delivered packages in the presence of Darko Bulatović, Mayor of the City of Niš, Tijana Djordjevic Ilic, City Council member and Dušan Radivojević, Head of the Office for Local Economic Development and Projects.

– Today we gathered again to send a message of unity, solidarity and trust that companies have in NALED. That is exactly why they responded to our initiative to donate food to those who need it most. Thanks to the Marbo company, but also to others who provided more than 52 tons of food for the vulnerable ones through the NALED platform. Those companies were also the initiators of our appeal to the Government of Serbia to exempt from the tax this type of donations. In Serbia, about 250,000 tons of food is thrown away every year, and 99% of food from catering facilities ends up in landfills. Exemption of the tax on food donations would help many to decide to donate – said the executive director of NALED, Violeta Jovanović.

Tijana Djordjevic Ilic, a member of the City Council in charge of social policy, said that the donation that arrived in Niš today means a lot in the period when everybody is trying to overcome the crisis caused by the corona virus.

– This donation is even more valuable, because it goes to those who are most united, ie primarily vulnerable Roma families, many of whom are also beneficiaries of the People’s Kitchen. According to the decision of the City, they are not able to work and that is why we always try to take care of them, especially in the given circumstances – she said.

Ljiljana Radosavljević, Corporate Communications Manager at Marbo Produkt, thanked Mayor Bulatović and NALED for the quick and efficient action that enabled the donation to reach the most vulnerable ones in Nis.

– It is important to save the continuity of such cooperation, especially in this kind of grave circumstances. For us as a company, it was necessary to find relevant partners, and we found them in NALED. We are satisfied if we have contributed at least a little with this donation and if we brought smiles into these vulnerable households – says Radosavljević.

On behalf of the Roma Cultural Center, Igor Paunović thanked NALED, the Marbo company, but also the City of Niš, which is trying to wholeheartedly help Roma families in a state of social need.

– Thanks for the help. The vast majority of Roma families live in difficult conditions and for them such donations represent a significant help.

NALED’s online donation platform is designed to connect primarily local governments in need of assistance with companies and international organizations that can provide that assistance. It was launched in early April, and so far this channel has provided and delivered 52 tons of food to 11,000 households, 67 computers for schools and municipal services, and medical and protective equipment, in support of 41 local governments in combating the negative consequences of the pandemic. The total value of the donation is more than € 250,000.
